Chapter 5: Clash of Two Worlds

***The warrior stood at the bottom of a green marble staircase that seemed to ascend into a twilight sky. Driven by some unexplainable force, Trunks began to run up the stairway without knowing why or seeing any point in doing so. He was panting quietly once he made it to the top and he gazed about his surroundings. All that appeared before him was a platform made of blue marble and a silhouette figure about two yards away.

Trunks could not recognize who or what was standing there. Searching for answers he took a step forward. As he did so the mysterious shape raised what appeared to be a hand and in that moment Trunks vision began to swirl. From a unrecognizeable haze, everything went dark.***

"Unnngh...." the warrior groaned.

A woman leapt in shock. "Ah! So he lives!" she cried.

Trunks slowly opened his eyes and as his vision returned to normal he could see a woman looking down at him. Who is she? What am I doing here? Moreso, how did I get here?

"Na...Nani?" the words barely made it out of his mouth, for he could feel pain all over his body, mainly in his arms and chest.

"He speaks in a strange tongue....hmmm..." the woman brought a hand to her chin in a thoughtful manner. As Trunks got a better look the woman had blonde medium length hair and a pretty set of hazel eyes. She also seemed to be in her early to mid 20's. He also took note that she was fair-skinned basically and her figure was pleasing to his eyes altough he knew she was trying to hide that by wearing thick clothing.

"What is your name?" the woman asked politely, but all Trunks did was give her a confused look.

"Hmm, I must try another approach." she placed a hand over her her heart and spoke slowly. "Gabrielle." Points to Trunks, expecting an answer.

Trunks of course, was no simpleton. He could tell that what she said had to be her name because of the gesture she made so in turn he clentched a fist across his chest and said with Saiya-Jin pride.

"Torankusu."

"Excuse me?" The woman asked in puzzlement.

"Torankusu." repeated the warrior.

The woman couldn't understand anything he was saying so Trunks had to say something else. He knew his English skills were not too good, but it was the only thing that he could try to use at this point.

"Tr....un...ks....Trunks." he felt stupid messing up on his own name, but the woman simply smiled and nodded her head.

"Trunks, now that's an odd name." Gabrielle said nicely.

His English was obviousely bad, but Gabrielle felt that could be remedied. Ignoring the pain, Trunks sat up on what seemed to be a sturdy cot. The blankets that he was covered in slipped, revealing his bare muscled chest. Gabrielle couldn't help but blush just a tiny bit and point to small stack of clothing on a wooden table.

Trunks got out of bed and slowly limped his way towards the table. Quickly he put on his black tank top and blue Capsule Corporation jacket. They both felt clean and fresh. He glanced over to Gabrielle and bowed his head in a polite manner, making it clear he was thanking her. Gabrielle smiled and offered Trunks a seat on the table.

"You must be hungry, I'll get some food out quickly." With that she walked away. Trunks sat down on a chair made of wood which was just right for his height and weight. From here Trunks took a glance of his surroundings. It appeared to be a somewhat large cottage which he assumed had at least two bedrooms. Looking over he saw that the kitchen which Gabrielle had gone to was of good size, one that satisfied two family members and possibly a guest with a large appetite.

Not more then forty-five minutes later Trunks ate to his heart's delight, the entire table was filled with delicious breakfast foods. Plates of bacon, eggs, cups with fresh milk, and many rplls of bread. All this, as Gabrielle had indicated, was for him.

Gabrielle watched him eat like a pig. Learning from her husband, she was used to it already. "I knew you would be hungry, you were out for nearly a week."

Trunks had barely heard her, but he nodded with food stuffed in his mouth to show he was quite happy. It took the warrior a good eight minutes to complete his meal, afterwards making an offering to help clean up.

"Oh no." Gabrielle shook her head. "It's quite alright." But Trunks carried all the dishes into the kitchen anyway. This shocked the young woman, who had never before saw a display of kindness even by the strongest of knights, her husband included. She had known ever since rescuing the young man from the field where he layed badly bruised but still very much alive that he was not like other men. She wanted to learn more about him.

After all the dishes were cleaned and neatly put away, Gabrielle made Trunks sit down on the cot while she went into her bedroom to get something. He did so and moments later she came back with a small set of books that looked fairly new and in good condition.

"I'll teach you how to understand my dialect, Trunks." she said and opened up a primer-type book. It was all about the alphabet and how to use each letter to make words. Gabrielle went slowly and with large amounts of patience as she taught Trunks how to prounounce every letter and made sure he understood. The Saiya-Jin, although felt uncertain about learning a new language, caught on much faster then Gabrielle had thought.

A month had past, Trunks could clearly speak without so much of a hint of a Japanese accent. Trunks gave Gabrielle lessons in his native tongue once he was able to speak English fluently. She took much longer time to learn but when she did finally manage to speak it well enough they were able to conversate both ways. Trunks helped Gabrielle throughout the household and the small farm that she and her husband owned. It turned out that Gabrielle's husband, Phillip, is a colleague of the two men that had attacked Trunks. It was Phillip that showed the warrior the customs of the land and the many laws that govern it.

What fascinated Trunks was the acts of chivalry which was most recognized in this land. As a child, Bulma had shown him clips of the Middle Ages and about knights in shining armor rescuing damsels in distress as well as serving their king and queen. After some careful thinking Trunks went up to Phillip and asked.

"What does it take to become a knight?"

Phillip laughed, drinking his cup of ginger ale, "Ah so does ye wish to become knight?"

Trunks nodded, "Yes."

"Ay lad, but it isn't easy. Are you willing to work hard?"

"Yes."

"Good. I think ye is ready to learn."

Phillip was dubbed a knight when he was twenty-five years old. Ten years had past since then but his skill remained sharp as a newly forged blade. Phillip was just as tall as Trunks with brown hair and brown eyes. Much less then Trunks, Phillip had a set of muscles which were the result of years of being a knight. He didn't have to show a lot of new things to the warrior since Trunks had already proven himself to be a powerful fighter. All he needed to show was etiquette when he greets women and how to act before the King. More customs and mannerisms.

Trunks felt awkward being in such a place, "This world is....so strange."

Phillip laughed, "Get used to it my boy. You'll become a great knight, and you shall sit at my side on the Round Table."

One can hope such.Trunks thought sarcastically.

Gabrielle and Phillip had been very kind to Trunks ever since they found him. It made him feel bad that he had to lie and often not tell the whole truth about where he was from. He promised himself that he would tell them as a repayal of their kindness. But not now. He wanted to wait for the right moment to arrive.

Weeks later, on a bright autumn day, it was time to head out to the castle to become knighted. Phillip would go alongside Trunks while Gabrielle stayed back to watch the farm. Before they could go however, they gave Trunks a set of clothing.

"What is this Gabrielle?" he asked.

"Something you should change into."

"Very well." He took the clothes and quickly changed in his bedroom. The warrior came out of the room wearing a clean light grey tunic, leather boots, and hanging on the left side of his waist was a brand new sheath that Phillip had gone into town to buy. Everything fit well, not a single twitch of uncomfort.

"I cannot thank you two enough."

"You have helped us at home, Trunks." Gabrielle smiled, "Don't you worry about repaying us. Now my dear, you must ride shortly before night falls."

Trunks replied, "Yes Gabrielle. Thanks again."

Outside Gabrielle brought out two horses. Both where of good size for a knight and a knight to-be, one being brown with white legs and the other was entirely light brown. After making sure the saddles where on well enough, Phillip got on to the fair-colored steed and Trunks followed with the second horse.

"You will like Camelot, Trunks." said Gabrielle. "It's a place of great wonder."

"Ay lad." Phillip nodded, "If a boy could become King, then you can and will become a knight. You have my word on it."

"I'll do my best sir." Trunks said meekly.

"Ha! Ha! No need for the politness around me boy. Now then, we are off." Holding the reins he gave the sides of his horse's body a kick and Phillip soon sped away.

"Camelot, this shall be most interesting." Following his example, the knight to-be came from behind and soon caught up with Phillip. Gabrielle waved to them as together, they headed eastward.
