Never The Man


Eyes like that of sapphire crystals 
Icy, cold, transparent 
A devil in a female shroud 
With a heart of pure bitterness 
Or so it all seemed to me


Was it those same eyes he gazed into underneath 
glittering stars? 
Was he embracing an angel sent from heaven? 
If only I were him then I'd know 
But I wasn't the man she wanted 
All along I hoped and pondered 
Of the day our pasts would be forgotten 
And a new life together would begin


That foolish notion shall never be reality 
For I was never the man she wanted
